The Catskill Scenic Trail is private property owned and maintained by the Catskill Revitlization Corporation. It is not owned or funded by any government. Therefore there is no implied right to do as you please with trail property.

The trail property has a definite boundary as does the property you live on, and there is no mystery surrounding where it is. Both Delaware and Schoharie counties have very helpful and easy to use websites which have a digital tax map on them that anyone can zoom in on to find out who owns each and every property in the county and clarify where the approximate boundaries are. Don't trust us, go to the websites and see for yourself.

The answer is no. Except for snow mobiles, there are no motorized vehicles permitted on the trail.

It has been the policy on the rail trail since it was first created, when the railroad tracks went away over three decades ago, that the trail was to be a safe place away from vehicle traffic dedicated for hiking, bicycling, running, and the like. This was, is, and will be the policy on the trail, and neither the policy not the property boundary have changed. If you want to ride an ATV, UTV, or any other motorized vehicle, we ask that you stay off the trail, and that you respect the policy for the trail and our boundaries, as we respect those who own the private property around the trail.

Cell service is not reliable. Ensure you have your route set and plans arranged before heading to the trail.

There are no trash receptacles along the trail. Be prepared to carry out any items you bring with you.

There are multiple entry points and trailheads. Trailheads are located in Bloomville, Stamford, just south of Grand Gorge and just north of Roxbury. There are two designated parking areas. Find parking in Bloomville on Route 10 just east of the Hamlet of Bloomville, and in Stamford at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and South Street by the historic depot. Should you choose to access the trail where there is no parking lot, park on the side of the road with consideration for those who are using the road or trail.
